Hey guys, I did some searching but I didn't see anyone who had this same problem. Every time that I close either the RR logger or the RR ECU Editor, it loses all saved configurations. I have to point it to the logger definition location and the ECU definitions location every time that I open it up. I even see the ECU Editor release notes every time that I open it as if I'm opening it for the first time. Has anyone else ever run into this problem or figured out a way to solve it?

Run as Administrator once, after that it works fine :)

Yes, I think I saw this too. Which platform are you on exactly (mac/win/linux/typeoflinux). Which RR version are you running? How did you get it, how are you running it? Dale (or maybe even I) will need more info to be able to help you. I think he mentioned that older versions were broken in this way. I could be wrong.

Why? This shouldn't be necessary. What does it achieve exactly?

If you are using the latest version there is no need to Run as Admin. Settings are stored in a user writable directory on all platforms.

This is the same as sudo on non-Windows platforms.

Yes, I know what Admin does on windows :-p I've been forced to use Windows from time to time in office environments. In one company I got screwed by bad win behaviour re power management and told them to get lost and installed linux. It worked out well despite the noise they made at first :-)

I guess the answer is that "it allows it to write the file in the system location which it otherwise wouldn't be able to" and also "i was right about it being an old version", right? :-)

Fred.

I have the latest version of Rom Raider. I use Vista Home Premium. I always have to run as administrator to save preference changes being made to the logger or editor.

Never really bother me much so i haven't tried to solve it.

Even with latest version of RR, I still need to Run as Administrator to get the ECU Defs Manager to save and store the changes for next program.start

You can pull the user home directory out of the System object, so if that's not being done right now, it probably should be, and used appropriately. If it is, it might warrant some further investigation? FWIW, I saw this running from the latest download on the mac, too.

how often do u really need to make changes to the def manager, most time my changes are temporary so having it not save every time works for me.

That's not the point! There is a bug/unintended behaviour. At the least, it should be fully understood, preferably it should be fixed to provide new and old users with a happier experience such that they tell their friends :-)

I am one of the ones writing new definitions and adding definitions for new tables to old maps... my answer to your question? Daily :)

You must have an old version then. I never have to do that. Not on Win XP (obviously), Vista 64, or Win7 64 systems that I have.
Where is your settings file and was it created while you ran As Admin? Maybe it has the wrong privileges (Admin) in your own home directory.
Or is it in All Users when it should be in your dir???

Why, could the installer script not find your home dir? Oh, never mind you never installed it did you, just ran if from a source build you did which it's not correctly setup for.
