Alright I bought two roms off Braden (xpt) and since nothing in my xpt rom is even relatively close to the original purchased rom, I decided to take the newest revision of the 2002 rom from SOA and transfer all of my figure from my personal xpt rom.
I want LC (tinywrex?) that came with the xpt rom patched onto my new rom. How do I do this?

I'm very very very slow when it comes to confusing JAVA stuff... So don't yell when I have no clue what your talking about. I just want LC on my own map that I made... And since I already paid for it, twice I don't see why patching it would be "illegal" or "immoral."

I experienced alot of "knock" and dropping of the IAM when using Tinys LC patch so be careful with it. I used it maybe 3 times and there was bogging, false/true knock detected and IAM dropping all the way to .4500.. so I gave up on it and took it off. Hopefully you have better luck.

I've used it several times (well probably 10-12 times) logged it at the track twice. Only once did I pick up -2.11 fbkc right as I left the line... So overall pretty good luck with it. Plus now I'm running E85 So I'm sure, or hopefull that I won't have any problems.

If you just want LC then download the patch file and follow the instructions. It's pretty straight forward other than making sure that the ROM is saved as 192k file size and it needs to be named appropriately.

that's because your rev delta falls under ECU rough knock detection range, and it might take engine noise as knock...

Same
I would watch the logger while bouncing off of LC, zero knock, zero FLKC or FBKC, and in fact while doing this it would raise my IAM (if it was below 1) back up to 1 very rapidly (perhaps a quick way to reset your IAM without resetting the ECU?). As soon as I would launch though, my IAM would drop significantly, sometimes as much as .5.

As I posted in another thread where ppl where saying the LC is causing knock and IAM to drop - just remember the LC patch just enforces the factory rev limiter at whatever rpm point you set. So it in itself is not causing knock, but it will cause you to drop into areas of your fuel and timing maps that you prolly never been in or tuned yet, and as such the targets in these areas of your maps will be what is actually causing your knock.

Using the RomRaider logger, log the general paramaters so you can detect and adjust to remove knock - here is how I'd do it, but others may suggest another way.

First, it's best to first smooth your "base timing", "timing advance" and "primary open loop fueling" maps before you actually start to tune for LC. This way you know that you have a clean slate to start from. Make sure that as you smooth your maps, you log after each change to ensure the changes you made do not cause knock, and if knock is caused, you need to adjust and sm,ooth again to remove it.

Once all three maps are smoothed and there is no knock, then follow the steps below to ensure you have no knock under LC conditions.

1. Open RomRaider Editor (close any/all instances of the logger)
2. Open the "base timing" map
3. Check the "overlay log" button (top right of map)
4. Click "Logger" and launch the ecu laggoer
5. In the logger, click the "Dashboard" view
6. Start your car
7. Select ONLY the following parameters: Engine Load, Engine Speed, Feedback Knock Correction, Fine Learning Knock Correct, Ignition Total Timing, and either your WB02 or A/F Sensor #1.
8. Click "log to file" to start logging
9. Log LC for 5-10 seconds
10. Click "log to file" again to stop logging
11. Turn your engine off
12. Check the RomRaider Editor again, you will now notice that there are highlighted cells in your "base timing" map - these are the points of your map that you entered while using LC.
12. Open the log you just made
13. Now look at where knock occurs (rpm and load) and then check the "base timing" map for the corresponding highlighted boxes and adjust timing as required to remove knock.
14. Save your changes.
15. Close the ecu logger and RomRaider editor
15. Open ECUFlash
16. Open your modified ROM
17. Open the "base timing" map again
18. In the "base timing" map window, click "view" and then "view graph" to show the 3d view of your "base timing" map.
19. Now look at the area of the map you adjusted in RomRaider editor and use the 3d view of the map to smoothen that area of the map. For me, I found that a nice smooth map, with smooth transitions between cells helps to reduce kncok. Just make sure that as you smoothen the area, you don't accidentally increase timing again. If there are spikes, try and find a common point that is equal or lower then the timing changes you made in the RomRaider editor.
20. Save your ROM again and flash it to your car.
21. Close ECUFlash
21. Repeat steps 1-21 as required until all knock has been removed while under LC conditions

That is pretty much it.

I've used it and logged it several times before. However, I used it with an XPT Stage 2 Rom (came with it) Since the only thing on my Rom that is the same from XPT is the LC I wanted to transfer my findings and mapping onto a stock rom but I also wanted LC, since using it took me from 8.8sec in the 1/8th mile to 8.4sec. :)

I just didn't know how to patch it, I have other things to worry about when they are smoothed I will patch it and run my own rom.

You have a16bit ecu and tinywrx's LC patch is free for 16bit models.

1. Download the old FREE version of ECUEdit (HERE).

2. Extract the ECUEdit file.

3. Click "ecuedit.exe".

4. Once it opens, click "File" and then click "convert 160K to 192K...".

5. Now browse and locate your ROM image and then once selected/highlighted click "open".

6. It will now have converted your ROM image size to 192KB and saved the new 192KB ROM image in the same directory as your ROM - with _192 added to the ROM image file name.

7. Download the LC patch for your particular ROM (HERE)

8. Unzip the patch archive to its own folder

9. Copy your 192kb ROM into the unzipped folder

10. Double click the Patch.bat file (accept any warnings)

11. When the command prompt window opens, under the word "Status" it should say something like "dif remark: Launch_control_capability_xxxxxxxx" - if it doesn't you have a problem. If it does, "press any key" as prompted.

12. It will now patch your ROM, you will see a number of lines run down the command prompt, and then another "press any key" prompt - if not, you have problems, if you do then press any key

13. The command pompt window will now close and the ROM in the folder will have the LC patch applied.

14. Now the trickiest part of all - so pay attention :P.

In the LC patch folder, open the "ecuflash xml.txt" file, and copy all the lines of text. Then find the correct ECUFlash definition for your ROM, open it with a text editor (notepad is fine) and at the very end of the file before the "</rom>" paste the text you copied earlier.

So basically, if you owned an Impreza WRX, and ROM ID was A4TF510E, you would open the file:
C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\subaru\Impreza WRX\A4TF510E.xml

Then you would past the text from the "ecuflash xml.txt" file at then end of the "A4TF510E.xml" file just before the "</rom>" and it should look something like so:
Code:
<scaling name="LCRPM" units="Engine Speed (RPM)" toexpr="x*.1953125" frexpr="x/.1953125" format="%.0f" min="0" max="12000" inc="50" storagetype="uint16" endian="big"/>
  <scaling name="LCSPEED(KMH)" units="Vehicle Speed (KMH)" toexpr="x" frexpr="x" format="%.0f" min="0" max="100" inc="1" storagetype="uint8" endian="big"/>
  <scaling name="LCSPEED(MPH)" units="Vehicle Speed (MPH)" toexpr="x*.621" frexpr="x/.621" format="%.0f" min="0" max="100" inc="1" storagetype="uint8" endian="big"/>

   <table name="LC disable speed(KMH)threshold" category="tinywrex patches" address="2C330" type="1D" level="1" scaling="LCSPEED(KMH)"/>
   <table name="LC disable speed(MPH)threshold" category="tinywrex patches" address="2C330" type="1D" level="1" scaling="LCSPEED(MPH)"/>
   <table name="LC RPM delta" category="tinywrex patches" address="2C332" type="1D" level="1" scaling="LCRPM"/>

</rom>

15. Now save the file and open your patched ROM with ECUFlash

16. In ECUFlash, in the list of "Current ROM Metadata, under the "ROM Info" heading, you will see the new "tinywrex patches" heading - click it.

17. You can now adjust the LC parameters as you require.

Then have fun :)

Great explanation of how to do it. Just did it and it all worked for me. Wil have to work out what to adjust now.

Please take the time to read each step that I took the time to write. If you read the first 4 steps, you would see how to save it at the correct size.

If you read each step and follow them exactly, you eill have no problem patching the ROM with launch control.

Regards,
Leslie

Has anyone tried patching for example the A4R0500 with the A4R052N patch?
Wonder if all the roms that inhereit the A4R052N work with the same patch.

greetings.

Does anybody know exactly what the batch file does???
I can't find it available anywhere.

I had launch control working starting with my factory rom but had my laptop stolen. A friend patched my rom and it still works in my car. But I would like to be able to patch other roms for friends and my files are obviously gone.

It works fine on the rom currently on my car to change the lc settings so I know it isn't within ecuflash or the definition. And that also rules out my model of ecu being incompatible.
I used ecuedit to resize these other rooms from 160 to 192.
I tried resizing and patching a factory rom as well. No luck.

I would also love to get the valet, ffs and rev limit option parts of his patch as well.

A huge thank you to anyone who can help!

Btw, I had a knock issue when experimenting last year.
Set your "Rev limit timing Retard" a few degrees lower then your timing advance max and you should be able to launch all day with no knock.
I was running +12deg across the board in my timing advance max table. -15deg rev limit retard. Never pulled timing or dropped im at all after that!
