The Toyota 86 ECU(current public release model) is still a Subaru ECU. Not sure if the programming has changed between 86 and BRZ though.
I have an insider who is a Toyota Dealer, Toyota have their own 86 diagnostics equipment as well as 'flashing equipment' for ROM updates.
Also, the new Legacy GT has an FA20 Turbo which has the same ECU as the 86/BRZ

Ok, this sounds like a Subaru diagnosic is used for Toyota too Good to know, but if it didn't respond to SSM init request over CAN, maybe we got our next protocol, or just the CAN-ID of car/diagnic tool has chanced. Quote: Also, the new Legacy GT has an FA20 Turbo which has the same ECU as the 86/BRZ I expact the BRZ ECU in the FA20 Turbo too, but in both cases I hoped we got a SH7059.. So on the other hand, BRZ will be the start-up to next generation Impreza WRX-STI. That´s the reason, why I think BRZ support of RomRaider is a importend part BR

Hoping to get the handshake protocol for Subaru sorted this week... 'sniffing' a BRZ as soon as I can drive it.

No, on the contrary. I see romraider picking up where ecuflash left off. It shouldn't too much for this highly intelligent community to work out how to implement general Subaru flashing, then extend it as new models come along.

Can RomRaider Editor SSM Test App initiate a ROM download? I doubt it but did not have time to test.

No, it can only read addresses allowed by the ECU via the SSM connection. Only some ROM and some RAM addresses are allowed.

Calibration area is usually open for reading. RAM area is usually open for reading. Learning data and stack area are usually closed for writing thru SSM otherwise the code maybe routinely hacked.

Sorry to bump a dead thread but I was told by someone that in order to write to the brz ecu the car must be in test mode. Apparently there is a fuse that must be jumpered under the hood in order to put the car into test mode. Has anyone tried dumping the rom with the fuse jumpered?

Access the tune the same way the dealers do Kernel is the issue with EcuFlash, can be done though. Also, it for some reason makes the Tactrix hate talking to 16bit ECU's

Same as Diesel-ECU. Subaru Diesel Crew build der theire own kernel to be able to read / wirte the Denso Diesel. Hopefully ECUflash will restart devellopment and build a new kernal for several Subaru ECUs
