Hi guys

My Mc afee anti virus subscription is about to expiry, what is a good easy to use anti virus protection programme that you guys recommend?

Cost is not an issue, as I believe it is a good investment

ESET NOD32. Incredibly light weight, stupid fast definition updates (2 or 3 a day sometimes), 32 and 64 bit support. Best $40 I've ever spent on computer software.

Just use the latest AVG Free in conjunction with Spybot S&D.

AVG is totally FREE (ie. no cost at all) and is a decent anti-virus, and Spybot S&D is one of the best FREE anti-spyware programs available.

Also, make sure you enable WIndows Firewall at a minimum, or better yet, install a decent firewall program - like Outpost FREE 2009 or PC Tools Firewall Plus.

Note: When using a firewall application other than Windows Firewall, extra configuration is required (ie. setting up rules and/or trusted applications etc) for things to function correctly.

Leslie.

The latest Norton stuff is not the bloatfest it used to be. I'm happy with it's ability to stay out of my way. I had AVG Free before but was nervous about rootkits.

thanks for the replys

I had AVG free, but was a little concerned about how good a job it would do. McAfee seems to slow down the pc and alot of alerts (Potentialy unwanted programmes) i had a multi licence for McAfee but it is about to expire

I installed ESET NOD32 Smart Security 4 last night, seems to be easy to use and doesnt slow the PC down

We use a program called SOPHOS. Not free like AVG but a good piece of software. Not perfect, but not nearly as bloated and "Take over your computer" as software like Norton.

I run a IT support company catering to small business. I always recommend Eset Nod32 to my customers. I have been using it for 7 years now and neither myself or any of my customers who use it have caught a virus. Aside from that is it fast and not intrusive.
