A Y works, that is what I use, I actually use 2 Ys to go do the daisy chain, a different gauge, and the USB...

Where would I plug a "Y" stereo adapter to? Whatever cable is from the DM-5 plugged into the SM-AFR module?

Thanks

On the Tx of the SM-afr, I have A Y. One goes to the next module in line, on to the DM-100. The other side of the Y goes to another Y that splits to the USB and another gauge...

Thanks to the topic starter and contributors, I made my USB link to the PLX wide band using $6.25 module from Amazon (http://amzn.com/B006JKNWLE) and a 3.5mm headset jack, which I inserted to the Tx socket on the SM-AFR module. Worked fine in RomRaider immediately, no hassle. Highly recommended setup.
Now I need to find a Y connector to keep the AFR module in the daisy chain while still connected to the logger PC.

Anybody having issues with the logger gauges randomly freezing up, then coming back a few seconds later? Only happens when my PLX WB02 is connected via USB with my DIY Pololu.

Sounds like a problem that may occur when there's a ground loop created through the PLX connection. You can read a bit about grounding problems here.

I've got my car pc and the wideband controller grounded at the same point. I'm using the acc-on line from the car pc shutdown controller as the 12v supply for the wideband. Maybe I should reconfigure this with a relay and use the 12v rail direct from the battery, fused of course.

I've been having issues with being able to log the wideband for more than 10-20 seconds. It will give me live data and then just freeze on the last down value.

I just built a cable using one of these: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9717 My sensor should arrive this afternoon. I'll confirm it works then. Assuming it works, this would seem to provide a very elegant solution.

Thanks for the link, that looks like a better converter than the one I used. Very tidy.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I wanted to share some of my experiences with this process.

First started attempted to use an FTDI TTL-232R-3V3-AJ cable with no luck.
Also tried swapping the TX and RX lines, but still no data.
Maybe the signals need to be inverted? I guess I could have tried changing this in ftprog...

Anyway, I followed the advice of this thread and got the USB serial adapter from Pololu (Item 391, with the CP2102) which costs about $15.
This worked fine just like everyone else has reported.

While browsing Pololu's site for the adapter, I also noticed another usb serial adapter that they sell, Item# 1308, is also TTL serial, but only costs $6 compared to $15.
I couldn't resist and picked one of these up at the same time.
I'm happy to report that it also works great with the PLX.

Only practical differences I noticed are a smaller pcb, and the use of micro-USB rather than mini-USB.
Link to the cheaper board: https://www.pololu.com/product/1308

As a side-note, I measured the output voltage of the PLX, and was surprised to find it only puts out 2.98-3V or so but I guess it's close enough to 3.3V

For reference, this was with the newest PLX SM-AFR (gen 4) which uses the LSU4.9 rather than the 4.2

The serial output? Did you use an oscilloscope or voltmeter?

Voltmeter so it's not the best way, but I've managed to read various voltages of serial outputs from various devices with this same meter and they've mostly been much closer to their specified voltages.
Like I said though, it seems to work just fine which is all that really matters, but it was a slight curiosity.

does anyone have a local copy of the PLXApp018.pdf? they seemed to have removed it from the webs. I ask cause I can't get romraider to read more than a single reading.

logging the serial with Putty returns all sortsa garbage, but can't tell what's up.

trying to read an AFR and Boost sensor module, and was ultimately going to read the data and display on some 4 digit 7 segment displays using an arduino. would help to know what i'm reading though.

thanks

just kidding, I seemed to have already "Saved" it to another romraider thread back in 2013.

saved myself, although I seem to be having the same issue I was back then. :(
