Windows 8 Issues

HI, Havig some trouble getting RomRaider to work on windows 8. Have installed the latest 32 bit java and tried installing romraider numerous different ways!. When I try to open a saved rom image, nothing happens. This is on a new laptop, I had romraider working fine on the old vista one, but the battery only lasted half an hour! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You are going to have to provide more info than that.
What version of Windows exactly?
How did you install it, did you install using the installer package (setup.exe) of RomRaider or are you using the standalone ZIP version?
Can you provide the rr_system.log file?

Aside from the log file, can you also describe the installation process? You say you tried "numerous ways" and that you can't open ROM images, but let's step back to installation first. Did it complete successfully? Did in add menu shortcuts? Any and all extra information would be helpful in determining if it's an installation issue or an application issue.

ok windows 8 version 6.2.9200. I used the instaltion package. It appers to install properly, however I do get a message from the computer saying that the software may be unsafe to run, but I told it to ignore this. Romraider opens, I can access logger, all the defintions are present and the ECU definitions are in the right place. Yes I selected to get a desktop and start menu shortcut. Sorry I don't know how or where to find the system log file.

After many hours, Uninstalling Romraider, ecuflash, java, restarting computer, letting windows do all its updates, reinstalling all the above, unzipping all the definitions.... Success!! Now hopefully no new windows updates or virus protection updates jam anything up!!

Is that Win8, 8 Pro, 32bit or 64bit?

The log is called rr_system.log and is found in:
%HOME%\.RomRaider\

You can cut and paste that line into the Run command or Explorer Address bar.

In system info it says "x64 based system" so I guess 64 bit. Are all the defintions supposed to come with the installer? I know you have to get them seperatly if you use the .zip downloads. Or I just did it wrong....

All definitions are separate from the RomRaider application as they contain constantly changing information. You have to download each and then tell the Editor and Logger in the settings menu where you saved the files.

I cannot get Romraider to install into my widnows 8 laptop. I downloaded everything, double clicked run and this is the message I get. Windows cannot find javaaw please make sure you typed it correctly and try again.

Its been awhile so maybe I am just doing something stupid? I installed the latest java 32 bit version and that didn't change anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Once you sort that out it should work.
It's in the JRE directory. Maybe Java didn't install correctly.
