disabled ign cut and went back to fuel cut.

imo there is def. a need for static timing/static fuel/no knock correction during NLTS... i had very heavy (-5*) fine learning right in that range.

then again, that was with ign cut, which is a LOT noisier!!!

Ok... I don't know what you did when you designed your LC, but it kicks the crap out of the utec. The utec struggled to make 10psi at 6400rpms on fuel cut... I switched mine just now over to fuel cut, started at 6200rpms, 1deg timing and 10.7 target afr just to see... makes 10psi almost as quick as ignition cut! I'm impressed, and I think I'll leave it there, I don't feel like sending more crap through my turbo just yet :D

Didn't drive the car, it's pouring outside.... but ran it for quite a while in the garage letting the oil get up to temp before playing with LC, car seems to be running smooth, and it made quick boost on LC so I'm feeling more confident the pieces of that plug didn't harm anything too bad....

thanks for the pointers on LC

Hmmm... dumped some denso coppers in it (1 range cooler etc.) bkr7e equiv

Ran good.. started making some pulls... seemed good.. then seemed like it was blowing out spark a little bit in higher gears. (gapped them to .024) Thinking I just got to have a weak coil pack lol... make another 3rd gear pull, then nlts into 4th and just a ways into 4th it starts missing badly again :(

Pulled the plug from the SAME cylinder and guess what, ground electrode is partially melted off  :!: Not as bad as the iridium, and the ceramic was in tact this time.. but melted non the less.

Now I'm starting to get upset, I don't know how much more abuse that piston, valves, turbo is going to take. Obviously I have a very lean condition in that cylinder. Wideband reads high 11's at WOT, egt is low (E85)... I've made 11 second passes at the track with the wideband reading mid 13's on stock pistons and didn't have any issues like this!!! WTF is going on... I moved that injector to another hole, guess I'll see if the issue follows with it?

Safe to say it had nothing to do with Ignition cut!

Ive seen this with pre-ignition on e85. Try a non protruded plug (br7es, its a 13/16 head plug but I've heard it fits), and be carful that you are not over advanced at high RPMs with your timing.

As far as timing, I'm seeing:

15 deg at 5k rpms
18 deg at 6k rpms
22 deg at 7k rpms
24 deg at 7600rpms (where I shift at the latest)

This is at max of 35.8psi absolute pressure at high rpms (it creeps just a little towards the top)

atmospheric pressure is 11.43 here, so that's about 24psi on the gauge, but obviously more like 21 at sea level.

BC 280 cams.... for comparison sake, I ran 4-5 more degrees of timing when I was on a stock motor/cams because it was moving so much less air than it is now.

2 of my injectors had the black goo fairly badly, this one probably being the worst. Not sure how it could even get fuel to spray....stuff is nasty.

Whats the deal with the non-protruded tip?

thanks for the help!

todd: i think the big difference is the LC-only timing retard. 15btdc vs 15atdc makes a HUGE difference ime.

Just been one thing after another :x

Plopped some bkr7e's in the car. Dropped a few degrees of timing, and added some fuel even thought the WB wasn't terribly lean. So far I haven't melted another plug... oil drain tube started leaking, so I pulled the turbo to fix it.. noticed the plug pieces did some damage to the turbine wheel :(

That was a Holset HE341 (56mm). I had an HE351 (60mm, same 9cm exhaust) sitting in a box, it's got some play, but no contact on the housings and no axial play. Went ahead and stuffed that, had to change piping a little. Started re-tuning. Definitely moves a little more air at the same boost. Then my hallman mbc started acting up on me, got a piece of junk stuck in it... lol.. ugghh... I quit at midnight last night but I think it's all in order now...

Anyway, haven't melted a plug yet so that's positive  and the motor, so far, has survived all this abuse... thank God

I may replace the sensor on my AEM WB, it's a few years old now, just in case....

Uggghhhh....

melted another spark plug doing a 4th-5th pull (stupid indeed, but wanted to see if it could handle a long pull, and it didn't). AFR's were riding around 11.5, and I dropped timing a bit... I think I have a messed up injector, I moved the injector from the cylinder that melted the last few plugs, and the problem followed to that cylinder! brand new ID1000's :( so I think I'm on the right track, just feel bad for the turbo and I hope I can sort this out before a valve/piston suffers damage.

Anybody know if it's possible to buy just 1 new ID1000? I'm going to contact t1 and ID next I guess and see....

Sorry for the off-topic. Just a quick update:

I fixed the "bad" injector. It wasn't bad, it was partially plugged with something. I rigged up a setup where I could pressure feed solvent through the injector either direction. It was obvious there was a problem when I tested the bad one with a good one. It took about an hour or feeding solvent through it both directions before it dislodged whatever was in there... while blowing back through it at close to 100psi it finally came clean.

WOT afr's went from 11.5 to 10.5!!!  which means the two cylinders I've had that injector in have been running extremely lean.. no wonder melted plugs :( man I feel bad for my new built motor... ugghh... everything seems good now, it's running really strong once I pulled a load of fuel out overall!!! Wouldn't be surprised to see fuel economy go up, it was effecting it from idle on up, had to pull fuel everywhere. Man it runs good and now I have 10% more injector duty cycle to work with :D (more boost time)

Can somebody share a rom with a USDM 6spd where NLTS is active and working? I've got it wired up correctly via the original post (keeping CC) but it doesn't work. Its been awhile since I've played with it, but I wanna try and get it to work again.

ThanX!!

I can post settings for an 06sti 6mt when I get home tonight. What pin input are you using?

ThanX Jason- I'd really appreciate that. Pin E1. I tried inverted, non inverted, auto trans logic enabled, disabled and any combo thereof...

above 50% throttle at "x" rpm in gear it would act like a rev limiter IIRC...

Ok this is from an 04wrx I tuned. 02 USDM ecu, 06 USDM STI 6MT. Car ran 10.80 1/4 mile with these settings so they seem to work well enough lol.

Also the TPS threshold is set to 70%

Maybe the E85 injector gunk problem? After running E85 for about 8 months I changed my injectors. Two of them was covered in some black tar similar gunk. It helps to run a tank of petrol to clean them.

And follow the original instructions on wiring it up to retain CC correct?? And do I want the TID switch inverted or not? And the nuetral position switch- inverted or standard?
ThanX again Jason!!
