*update*
I installed the FP hta68, tgv deletes, godspeed silicone turbo inlet, walbro 255 fuel pump and modded injectors. The PCV system was the culprit for my oil consumption not the vf-39; I converted it to VTA with a catch can. I also found the stock hard turbo inlet to have some cracks and leaks. Now I just need to get it tuned :)

I am installing a hta-68 into my DD due to a leaking/failing vf-39. Modifications are listed below. This engine/ecu was purchased used in California and installed by me in Idaho(2500 ft). The tuned 05 WRX ECU was installed into the 2002 WRX wagon harness.

The car pulls hard and feels great. I have the rom from the ecu and a few data logs. I suspect I am getting some knock, but don't know what I am looking at yet. EGT's on my external gauges are good, idle ~800F and cruising 1200-1300F.

The motor does consume oil, but I suspect the leaking turbo...

I am all for learning how to tune myself, but I do need this DD up and running. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I have attached some logs of my current tune and the rom. (If posting this rom breaks the rules of the forum I will remove it)
If this is in the wrong forum, please move it. Thanks!

Hi!

Yes, you have some knock. :)

Do you have a wideband afr?

If not can you log your afr sensor?

As I am using my phone I can't dl your rom but you could be running lean when wot. Could be a simple ol fuel table issue but it can also be a delay.

:)

I don't have an AFR sensor yet. I will get some logs of the AFR values from the ECU and post them up today.

Ok, from a quick "on the phone" look the afr seems ok. A wideband is a good thing to invest in though.

You could log total timing advance instead of splitting it up. You could be runnig too much advance for your fuel. What fuel are you running?

I'm running 91 now. If it's available I use 93. Could my knock sensor be too sensitive? I don't hear any obvious knocks or pinging. It has always had a rough "tumbling" idle at startup when cold, but goes away in less than 5 seconds.

I just replaced the spark plugs and got interrupted before I could get a hot compression test. I got 60 psi on all four cold cylinders. That seems very low. I think the gauge was bad.

Thanks for all your help!

The gauge set was bad. I got 135 psi on the passenger front.

... hence the advice to always look at the grouping of the numbers, relatively, as opposed to reading absolute values. :)

I updated the OP.

It seems I should not have installed tgv deletes, silicone inlet hose and modded injectors at the same time. I now have lots of - A/F correction at idle. Upwards of -20. I can't scale the MAF because i have unkown injectors. I cant scale the injectors because I have unknown maf values.

Should I scale the MAF with these injector values? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4631

Thanks in advance!

(I have a van to drive meanwhile) 8)

there is no 100% correct value for any of these parameters.

best thing to do is make an assumption about one of them and tune the others.

That makes me feel a little better. I will start scaling the maf with the above injector characteristics.

Thanks!

I can't seem to adjust injector scaling to zero out a/f correction during idle. I have changed injector scaling from 740-900 and I always end up with -25% af correction.

I used the injector scaling utility in romraider and it gave me conflicting numbers. 500 700 and up to 900. I must be doing it wrong.

When a/f correction is negative during idle... does that mean you need to raise the injector scaling? It seems large injectors when scaled to little would get longer pulses and result in rich afr. ECU compensates by scaling a/f correction negative. Is this correct?

Ok in that log your correction is down to -21.
Yes your right about raising scaling to reduce fuel but dont forget latency. You raise latency to increase fuel, and decrease latency to reduce fuel. And latency has a much greater effect down low than it does up top.
Ive never had much luck with the romraider injector scaler.
What flow rate were the injectors modded too? I would start with whatever they were flow tested too. If it was say 650cc Then I would set scaling to that and then concentrate a bit on latency. Your latency settings will affect your low load/low revs AFR more than anything. So I would set your scaling to injector size and then reduce your latency 10 or 15% (which reduces fuel) and see what happens, it should start heading from high negative to lower negative value. (hopefully) You will get a feel for it after you see things changing.

Thanks for your input! I was getting very frustrated. I would not have looked at latency. I will give it a shot in the morning.

The injectors are de-capped pinks. Not sure of the flow rates. I didn't get them tested. I will try middle of the road at 760cc/min and go from there.

Thanks again !!!!!!!!!

This is going to be a long and time consuming project. I just don't have the time. I am now looking to get an e-tune. I have e-mailed a few e-tune services but I am willing to pay someone on the romraider forums as well.

Goals:

-Speed density CarBerry rom (if my ECU supports it).

-91 octane fuel economy map and e85 conservative/safe track map.

If anyone wants to take this on, let me know your experience and your price.

Thanks!

Mods:
2.5L cobb tuner series stage 1 shortblock
2005 WRX heads
tgv delete
godspeed silicone turbo inlet
FP hta68
spearco tmic
modded injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump
Invidia catless up/downpipe
Borla Hush 3" exhaust
injen short cone filter intake
glowshift egt and coolant temp gauges
NGK iridium IX spark plugs (BKR6EIX)
2005 WRX ecu plugged into 2002 wrx wagon
