It would be cool if we could use the datastream from a defi controller to it's daisy chained guages. Lots of guys already have those sensors installed.

If someone can locate the protocol and share it, maybe we could support that too.

This is would be a very exciting project, will the schematics be published for the community?
The display would look extra awesome with a green on black VFD, just like the oem clock

VFDs are very expensive compared to LCD and I'm not sure there is one that has a viewable area that would fit where the clock would.

You can get a color touchscreen somewhere in the same price range these days, if not cheaper.

And unless you still have a double DIN radio, a single DIN radio or triple gauges is a much better use of the clock space.

I'm shooting for either:

plan A. removing the ECT/fuel gauges from the stock cluster and adding a 16x2 LCD with a 2" color LCD above it.

plan B (if that is impossible due to the pcb behind it). A housing on the steering column or sacrifice one of my 2 DIN pockets.

But I'm really happy with the tests I've done with no extra screen and just using RR. The plugin is perfect.

Sorry for not responding till now. I guess I don't check to see if there are updates to my subscribed threads often enough.

I've been working on V2 of this thing. Basically just a consolidation of all components used onto one single PCB. Makes assembly much cleaner. Logging with RR is flawless thanks to Paul's efforts.

I collaborated with an EE friend of mine to develop the schematic for this. Once we checked and rechecked everything, he laid the components out in PCB design software and sent out for the bare boards to be made. He then soldered all the components on by hand.

Here it is during some initial testing in car.

I would like to use a 20x2 Serial VFD. I'm trying to talk to some sales rep from Noritake that might get me a sample but he takes forever to respond. Also, the ability to read the gauges in sunlight is paramount. This is why I will only use a Transflective LCD or a VFD with a proper filter.

Keep us updated. I'll purchase one as soon as it is ready.
