I'm running an HP pavilion tablet (tx2000) with Vista 64 bit. I have updated to the latest java version available, and have downloaded the latest RR install file. I also disabled any anti-virus software for the install.
So here's what I do;

-Right click RR install file, and click "Run as Administrator" (I have also tried just double clicking the file)
-I get the security warning, and i click "Run"
-I see the RR splash screen
-I see the release notes, and click "Next" at the bottom
-I see the license agreement, click "I accept the terms, etc...," then click "Next"
-I select the default installation path
-I get a message saying the target directory will be created, and click "Ok"
-"Select the packs you want to install" appears, and I leave the 2 packs selected, and click "Next"
-The same type of window is there, except it is blank aside from the previous, next, and quit buttons. The install just sits here and does nothing. Tried it a bunch of times and it doesn't seem to get by this. I have no other applications open, and when I open task manager, it doesn't look like the romraider install is doing anything. After waiting a while, I click quit, and it asks me if I'm sure, etc. The previous button also works, so it doesn't appear to be freezing.

Any ideas?

I have been able to reproduce this on 64-bit Windows 7 and am investigating.

EDIT: The update is that there is no update yet. Have you tried using the ZIP distribution instead?

Yeah, the zip distribution works. Is it safe to use that? Seems a little iffy, but if I have no choice, I'll run with that.

I left the computer on all day yesterday downloading windows updates, and just tried it again this morning, still doesn't work.

Yes, the zip is safe to use. The installer simply unpacks the files and puts them in the place you choose. It does not make any entries in the registry. The only thing you won't get with the zip distribution is the start menu shortcuts.

No problem. I updated the installer software (IzPack) after the last release and still see the same issues. That was 4.3.0. I see that 4.3.1 is out, so I'll try that this weekend.

Figured out why it wouldn't install...I had Java 64-bit installed, and it will only install/run properly on Java 32-bit.

I was going to try that next. I've had that problem with other software that uses JNI (Java calling native libraries). I don't know if I'll be able to do anything about that, but thanks for the information.

RomRaider seems to install OK on Vista 64-bit, but when I assigned the ECU definition .xml, click save -- then open up a map that I know for 100% is the same (as it works on my Win XP notebook), I get the "ECU Definitin Not Found" error ... any work around?

I had no problems installing or running RR 5.2 beta on the Windows 7 64bit RC (version 7600.16385).

I did the standard install (exactly the same as outlined by zestysauce), however when it looked like it was frozen, I just left it and eventually it installed. Basically when it gets to the part to install and has the 0/2 screen where it copies the files, it sits there for a bit (prolly around 5 min) then copies the first lot of files and then it sits there again at 1/2 and takes about the same time to start to copy the rest of the files.

After that it finishes the install and runs as per normal (I have not tried with OP 2.0, only OP 1.3U).

I have it working on Windows 7 x64 - there is no problem? Did you read my post above, it explains what I did for it to install and work.

for those who do not want to uninstall 64bit java, you can specify the full path to your 32bit java in the run.bat and it will work.

the 32bit java will be in Program Files (x86).. when you add that path to the run.bat make sure you use the old 8.3 pathname eg:
C:\Progra~2\Java\jdk1.6.0_16\bin\java

You can find out dir name using dir /x

Hope this helps.. :-)
