Nate,

How can I tell which parameters in the logger.xml are 32bit ones?

Thanks,
William

Easiest way is to open the romraider logger, connect to your vehicle, then go through the poarameter list and write down the exact name of each of the parameters you want to view in sawmill - also write down the exact ecuid for youe vehicle.

Then open the logger definition file and do a find (ctrl + f) for the name of the parameter and make sure it is the one that relates to your ecuid - then write down the parameter id for the parameter.

Then edit the sawmill config and write the parameter id for it. it should then work without any problems.

Try opening Lumberjack (the logger that comes with the dashboard software), while it's connected to your car, and select ALL of the parameters. Then save the log profile. That should include everything your car supports. You'll still have to look up some of the units in the logger.xml file but at least you'll have the complete list of parameters.

I have no idea what how the ECU will handle you trying to log everything at once, so you should probably disconnect the cable after right before you select all the parameters. I'd like to think that Denso's software developers put an upper limit on the number of parameters they'll try to handle, but I'd hate to see a stack overflow (or similar glitch) blow up someone's motor. :)

A question about the SawMill.data file. Does it contain the data represented on the screen? I ask as I recorded some knock (33 hits) and then I looked in the data file in the area about knock but everything in the columns and rows is zero. Here's the data file and the image I captured, any suggestions?
Thanks.
Dale

It only updates the .data file when you exit the program, so if you copy the file while it's still running you won't see anything since the last time you closed it.

I don't have knock sum so the knock count screen doesn't work for me :(

Maybe the SSM dev can change it so that for 16bit ECUs it "counts" any FLKC/FBKC that is recorded?

Seems like FBKC would be easy to capture in a table like that. But for FLKC, it would be hard to know the difference between new FLKC versus learned FLKC. Learning view seems like the best way to view that. (Although, an auto-refresh feature would be nice.)

Thanks.
It seemed to have worked fine this morning for me after I exited the program. Maybe yesterday I did not exit it properly (hit the Close window button instead...?). Anyway it did write the data to the file today. Now to figure out why the engine is so noisy in that lower left quadrant. Could forged pistons do that, or just a lot of on/off the gas in rush hour traffic?

I got a fair amount of knock sum activity down there even on the stock tune, so I have just been ignoring it.

If you already have a laptop, an alternative is to run a headunit that has a vga input and connect your laptop to the headunit :)

I did this with a cheap china-spec double-din headunit off ebay. It is one of those all-in-one headunits with gps, dvd, cd, mp3, handsfree etc. And to get the wife's approval so you can buy it, just pull the fuse on your headunit and tell the wife it died, then show her how the ebay headunit is 1/3 the price of a new Alpine headunit and offers all those nifty features :p

When you install the headunit, just run a vga extension cable to under your seat and when you go for a drive, set up the laptop with whatever you want to view, plug the vga cable into the laptop, tuck the laptop under the seat, select the aux/e on the headunit and you're set :)

Edit: If you don't own a gps, you can tell the wife you'll also save a few hundred on buying one as it is built in to the ebay headunit :)
