So today, my friend brought his car to a shop to get it tuned on the dyno. We get it up there, pull off the rom image on the ecu, and after that, dead. We couldn't connect with the ecu anymore (cannot read nor flash it). So what can be the problem?
Cameron suggested to me to take a look at the ignition fuse (which we did) and it was still good. BTW, the car does not start up after this issue, so now it sits on the dyno.
Any suggestions?

Check all power and grounds on your ECU (You may need wiring diagram) Then disconnect battery, disconnect ECU and carefully pull circuit board from ECU box and observe it for damages like cracked tracks.

I had the same issue but it occurred after a flash went bad. i.e. my cable had a short in it and decided to hose things in the middle of a flash although I didn't know at that time that's what the problem was... I tried disconnecting the battery cable but that didn't work. I did as racer suggested above, pulled the ecu out and carefully removed the board. I didn't see anything wrong with it, not that I knew what I was looking for anyway I put it back together and re-installed it and I was able to reflash it with the flaky cable and get it running. Mine was doing that funky BS where it was like stuck in test mode whether the test connector was engaged or not. I'm not sure that what I did will work for you. In fact I think it was a fluke that it's working at all. I do have a backup ecu courtesy of Subie Gal now. That set me back a bit
