I'm reflashing a frinends wrx this weekend. And i was wondering if there are any different steps for an 04-05 than an 02. I thought i remembered when i read my ap manual that there was a step to ignore if you have an 02 (it was a step for 04-05) but i cant remember anything else.
(I am using 'romraider btw)
If not then ill just do it same way as my 02. Just making sure, thanks anyone who does reply.

You'll need the 2 wire (4 pin) flash block jumper instead of the 1 wire (2pin) jumper you use on your 02

Well i tried it today, went to do it, green connectors, clearish connector, key, then did a test write cause i didnt wanna mess his ecu up. Hit test write hen turned key to on quickly and hit ok on ecuflash. It sat there for about 5 sec then said it encountered and error. I could not get it to work, the car was in test mode.
I went then and made sure I was doing it right by reflashing my car about 2 different times, both in test write and a real write. So I was doing things right but it wouldnt go thro on his car.
He told me that his cig lighter went out a while ago, and subaru fixed it. But in fixing it, they messed up the circuit that the dome light, door sensors and keyless entry was on, so none of that worked. Would that maybe have something to do with this? It was really frustrating and I wanted to get this done today. Thanks to anyone who tries to help.

what happens when you connect the test mode plugs and the flash block jumper (clearish connector as you put it)? Does the CEL flash rapidly, fans cycle, and fuel pump cycle? That would indicate if the car is going into test mode correctly.
Our cars have a second set of green plugs under the passenger side. These should be connected at all times, although some dealers PDI's have disconnected them so I hear.

I heard something about other connectors under he pass dash but didnt see any (could have looked better but didnt know what i was looking for) When i plugged the green and block jumper in and then turned the ignition on (not the motor) it wouldnt be in test mode, it would GO into test mode if i hit the ok button on ecuflash after i hit write. then immediatley fail. I think tho it would go into test mode when i turned the ignition to on without the tactrix cable plugged in but with it plugged in it would wait till i hit ok after flash on ecuflash. Also just for fun the connectors under the dash on the pass side are green also? Located about where toward the center or left side of the car?

The other connectors are behind the passenger side kick panel. I use them because they are much easier to get to. They are green just like the ones under the dash.
Any way was the car going into test mode or not when you just turn the key to on. I couldn't understand your answer above.

Well if i had the tactrix cable plugged in then it would only go ino test mode (flash the cel and cycle the fans) when i hit test write in ecuflash then ok to the screen saying to turn he ignition 'on'. Then the cel would flash fans cycle etc

Checked and the connectors under the pass dash are connected.

Other ideas?
What i'm doing.
1. Connect green (under driver and pass dash are connected) 2. connect block jumper. 3. plug tactrix in (comp and car). 4. open ecu flash 5. load map to ecu flash 6. key in ignition (off pos. still) 7. hit test write on ecuflash 8. window pops up saying make sure you have connectors connected etc. 8. as SOON as i see that i turn the key to the on pos. furthest it goes without turning engine on. 9. then as SOON as i do that i hit "ok" on ecuflash. 10. error.
Like I said I've flashed my car (02) and another 02 before so im wondering if im missing something on 04's.

sounds like you're doing it right. is there an existing commercial flash on the car? EcuTek has a lockout that prevents ECU flashing, but I believe it says something about the "seed" being invalid before it fails.

I'll try to see what the exact error and log for it is today or tomorrow. But as far as I know this car is stock. Unless theres something on there that I or the owner doesnt know about.

That was what it said from start to finish (or whenever it gives me the error and stops)
If that helps id like an answer.
