Hi guys, I have a small question about the process involved in decoding the ECU software..
From what I can gather, the Subaru ECU's that are supported are all Denso by manufacture.. Does anybody know if any other type of ECU is, or can be supported?
The reason I ask, The New shape Impreza MY08 2.0R NA engine uses the same harness plugs and sensors on the engine (even to the point of the same part number Airflow meter), but is controlled by a Hitachi type ECU. Today I started downloading ROM's from cars that I can access with my new Openport 2.0 cable, and tried to download of the 2.0R, but It would not access the ECU.. Everything else with Denso ECU no problem..
Does anyone have any ideas, I am willing to be the guinea pig... It is for a race car that I want to get good power out of using the Openport 2.0 cable...
I am based in Sydney, Australia..
Cheers Sam

You say this is for a race car - did you already do the swap? If so, are you sure everything is wired up to the OBDII port correctly?

Yes. Thanks for the reply.
It is a race car, but the car is essentially standard. Standard wiring harness and standard ECU. The OBD II plug is the same as original. I even tried a standard road car today with the same result..??

All the modern ECUs are Hitachi (Renesas) microcontrollers, so I'm not sure about the distinction between Denso and Hitachi (Denso definitely has a hand in the software). If you could take a picture of the inside and outside of the ECU and post them perhaps some of the hardware guys can make a determination.

Hi, finally got the ECU and camera in the same place for more than 2 minutes.. Please find the pics of the Impreza 2.0R MY08 ECU board and processor.
Looking forward to any help possible..
Cheers Sam

Looks like you're out of luck. The microprocessor appears to be from Unisia JECS (UJ), which isn't supported by EcuFlash.

If it uses the same harness/plugs - maybe try swap your ecu for one of the support ecus?
