when i open the logger, there is a small error message on the bottom stating something to the effect of "cannot init with ECU, make sure ignition on..."

i successfully connected and retrieved the ROM already with ECU flash...

anyone have any ideas? should i try and reinstall ROMRaider?

try a different com port - there's a drop down box in the upper left hand corner of the logger - try each one. Make sure you ignition is on. Make sure you have the latest version of Java installed.

Pull up the connector of the tactrix cable connected to your obd port.
I initially was just wiggling it then found that I had to pull it up a bit before the logger worked.
Also, I had to load a logger profile first before trying the wiggling to get the logger working.

I am having the same problem. I am only trying to log using my APv.1 cable and am getting the same error message. I have all the drivers and proper updates and am still having problems.

I also use the APv1 cable. I find that when I first start up the logger, i have to hit the disconnect button, to stop it from searching, then hit the reconnect button and it connects. I have to do this everytime I use it.

Most of these issues are probably due to using crappy serial to USB converters with crappy drivers. Buy a name brand converter (like Belkin) or better yet, ditch it all together and get a tactrix cable.

I have the op 2.0 cable and I get the same error. Although this is on an 07 FXT. I had thought that the logger worked on this though (I do have the update in this thread viewtopic.php?f=8&t=360 )
its a brand new laptop with all the bloatware uninstalled. So I doubt its the laptop. It sees the cable and I was able to pull the ROM off the ecu.
I just get that same cant init error in the logger.

kascade has a thread in RomRaider Development about this now. He hasn't finished implementing logging yet, so I don't think you'll be able to log anything with the cable. I think flashing will work on any previously supported car plus the new CAN ECUs. In fact I don't think you can log with any tool yet since no one has updated their loggers to work with the new cable.

Merchgod has said he is working on Definitions and then he will be focusing on updating the learning view utility to suit new defs. Kascade mentioned somewhere that once the definitions are sorrted he will then work on adding support in romraider.

On a side note, I read that Colby is going to add logging support to the next release of ecuflash - but this will only be released once the new ecu definitions are completed.

So it looks like it may be a while mate. Unless you are a programmer and can assist the rr devs

The definitions do not have anything to do with adding logging support to RomRaider or Ecuflash. The logger definitions updated for the canbus models will simply allow users to log extended parameters for those particular ECUs, but doesn't have anything to do with supporting new hardware. Kascade has already started working on support for the op 2.0 in RR.
