For details of the development of this tune, see the thread here:

topic3241.html

Car:
2002 WRX Sedan

Mods:
OEM BCS with 1.0 mm restrictor pill
WG Actuator adjusted to 7.5 psi
Panel Filter
GP Moto Elbow
Up Pipe
TBE
JDM STI TMIC

You will need a 1.0 mm restrictor pill from Subaru. The P/N is 22326AA010 and it is $0.93 from King of Parts. I recommend buying it instead of drilling or making your own since making your own will give you slightly different results.

The wastegate actuator must be adjusted to 7.5 psi. Set the entire WGDC max table to 0 and do a 3rd gear WOT log from 2000 to 3500 rpm. Your boost should look like this plot. Adjust the actuator until it looks like this. Be careful not to burn yourself. If you have a hand pump, you can just hook up the hand pump to the actuator and check to see what pressure the wastegate door opens at.

Here are some boost logs plotted.

I also overlaid a TD04L-13T (should be same as TD04H-13T) compressor map over the 3rd gear log.

It looks like in the 3000-5000 rpm range, there's still quite a bit of room to push the turbo. In the 5000+ rpm range, we could probably run more boost, but at the risk of leaning out due to the injectors. If anyone wants to try to push it, buy yourself a spare TD04 (just in case) and let me know.

I am using the MAF scaling from this map since I have the same intake setup. So far it's working out great for me.

I'm using this map as the basis for my VF34 tune with 565 injectors. My car has never run better on or off boost.

Hi. From Peru.

I'm using this map on my 2002 USDM WRX. I think the MAP works awesome. A lot more power and acceleration is feeling so smooth.

I have installed:
- Downpipe + Catback Exhaust without cat
- Turbo header + Uppipe without cat
- Cold Air Intake
- Everything else stock.

The car is responding very good. Nice and smooth. Only thing is I'm having inconsistent BOOST on 4th or 5th gear when WOT from about 3000rpm. When the car is running at higher RPMs the car boosts steady and nice. The thing only happens when I floor the gas pedal to accelerate when engine is in the range of 3000-3500RPMs. The boost keeps inconsistent going from 10psi to 19psi making a weird acceleration until I get 5000-5500RPMs and then things get right (boost keeps on about 19psi). I suspect on my Ebay Cold Air Intake. I've read somewhere (think NASIOC) that these CAI can throw cells and missread information causing inconsistent boost.

I'm going to swap the CAI for the stock air intake and air filter to see if the problem is solved. Some thoughts?

Thanks.

I haven't tuned a lot of 16 bit ecus. They don't have TD proportional and they don't have WGDC initial. Those are huge drawbacks and makes tuning them very difficult if you are trying to control boost in all gears. Most people have some compromise somewhere. For example, if you don't drive in 5th gear at 2000 rpm at WOT then there is no need to tune that region.

From what I have seen, to get good boost control in all gears, the map needs to be customized. Otherwise, you'll need to make a compromise such as a less aggressive WGDC control. There were two other people who used this map and I had to help them make adjustments to their boost control.

couple questions, i have an 02 wrx, whats the difference between the wgdc initial and my initial off idle wg duty? also i was looking at ur tip-in tables, and urs are slightly higher than mine. i read a post here that someone re-scaled his tip-in table, have u done any scaling to that?

Bump from the dead. I have an opensource tune in which I have this same exact problem. Sometimes in 3rd this happens, but when I floor it in 4th or 5th gear, the boost wavers and in 5th seems like I hit a fuel cut. Above ~4700 it's fine. If I log, will someone be able to help me w/ the map? Very noob here.
