Pueblo Motorsports Park in Colorado - 4900ft altitude Got a couple runs in, weather was nice, pretty cool out- Ran my 02 Wagon ( http://www.generaltji.com) - full list of mods To sum up my mods: vf39, STi TMIC, STi Splitter, stock scoop, mod'd injectors erz headers, 4" downpipe, custom built by me 3.5" exhaust, 2 3.5" dynomax bullets Gimmick turbo inlet, perrin filter, elbow removed, tgv's gone, fresh heads (motor has 161,000) and Eibach valve springs ACT lightweight flywheel, exedy organic clutch, stock wheels and winter tires MBC set at 20-21psi tapering to 17-18psi (relative to sea level it makes 18 -15.5 ish) Self built and tuned, launch control set at 4500rpms, pulls 4 degrees And the thing that made the difference (other than launch control) is I switched it to E85 and re-tuned... with more timing and slightly leaner AFR (11.5 tapers to 11.3) it runs awesome!!!! Ran a 13.0 @ 107mph!! with a 1.9 sixty foot (I bought an 07 STi 6 spd, but I'd like to sell my tranny still working good!) Trapped higher than I expected, especially for this altitude! Here is the slip:

Very nice! I ran a 14.0 @ 99mph last week at Bandimere (5500ft, 80F) in my '05 LGT (3240lb.) on 91 octane. I will be converting to E85 very soon and already have injectors and a pump on the way. What were you running in the 1/4 prior to E85? I'd like to have some idea of what I might gain

I ran a 13.6 at 102 with a 2.1 or 2.0 60ft on pump gas with a little 104 mixed in for safe measure. I only upped the boost 1-1.5psi on E85, but quite a bit more timing and slightly leaner... and don't forget launch control, and that I am always tweaking my tune and getting my motor to run a little bit better and better.... tires aired up to 45psi, and a couple ice cubes on the IC right before my run

You'll be in the 12s if you launch it a little harder. I just ran 12.8@107, main difference is that I got a 1.7 60' with LC @ 5100
Thats damn good trap for a 2.0L with 100k+ and a 39.... did you have any seats in your car?? lol

lol... actually I even had the spare in Yea that trap really surprised me for the altitude too. I really wanted a 12, I might go back once before I put my STi trans in and see if I can't get there!

Glad to help John! thanks for the videos... most people like Bandimere better than PMP, but because we don't have traction issues I bet you would have pulled a high 13 at Pueblo since it's a little bit lower. E85 will put you in the mid to high 13's no problem!
Funny you mention an 03 Z06, my girlfriend's Dad has one, he ran it the same night I ran my 13.0 and had a best of a 14.2 at 102-103 ... although he had some traction issues on his launch!
Keep in touch, maybe we can hit the track on the same day!

Hey turbo_mike,
I just snagged a vf30 relatively cheap (threw out a bid that was a good deal, and got it... didn't think this would happen!) Assuming it's in good working shape, I'm just curious what your thoughts are on the difference between the 39 and 30/34? obviously your 34 out spools the 30 having ball bearings, but they should both flow the same, from what I understand the 30 should provide just a little more flow than my 39... hopefully giving me a little more top end. Right now mine tapers down a little, it would be nice to get another 1-2psi to red line. Do you think that would be possible by switching to this vf30? Figured I'd slap it in while I have my tranny out doing my 6spd swap....
...thoughts appreciated from anyone, thanks...

Yeah absolutely. The VF30/34 is a pretty good amount bigger than the 39. You should be able to hold 24 psi to redline no problem with the VF30. Thats slightly past its efficiency range, so that wont make the best power, but it will do it. But whatever boost you run(within reason), it shouldnt taper at all with a 2.0L even up to 8k rpm.
I can keep about 20 psi @ 86% WGDC with my 34 on my 2.5 at redline with full stock exhaust and cats, which is pretty awesome. And you have a 25% smaller engine than I do. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how much more top end you get out of the 30, and you can run more timing at redline since you'll be blowing cooler air than the 39 was with a little less exhaust restriction....

Awesome. That is good to hear, I think I'm glad I bought this now I make about 20-21 now on my boost gauge, and it tapers to 18 (relative to sea level that is 18.5 tapering 15.75ish) Interestingly enough, I actually picked up over 1/2 psi at the top when I rebuilt my exhaust and went from 3" to 3.5" (both off a 4" dp) Anyhoo, I would be happy making around 21psi on my boost gauge all the way through the rev range.. to 7k would be nice anyway.... Sweet, thanks for the reply on that

E85 will put you in the mid to high 13's no problem! You are right! I finally took my '05 LGT to the dragstrip tonight. Stage 2 LGT's were running the usual low-mid 14's and my previous best on 91oct was 14.09@99mph. I did 4 runs, all in the mid-high 13's. My best was 13.54 @ 102mph, Bandimere 5800' elevation. Still running stock turbo, stock intake and OEM paper filter. This is an awesome around-town car with quick spool and E85 torque. I went up against a new modded EVO X tonight and beat him by 0.16s on my second worst run of the night. Fun stuff!

Hey John, good job!! 13.5 on a stock turbo at 5800ft elevation is very impressive!!! Any future mod plans? I am heading to Pueblo on November 2nd to run, I guess it's possible I could see an 11... but should be low 12's for sure (praying/assuming it holds together )

I don't know about future mod plans. I was originally planning on a big turbo and dreading the costs... turbo, pump, injectors, etc. and decided to do the injectors, pump, and E85 conversion up front. E85 makes a bigger difference that I would have thought. I'm pretty happy with it the way it is. With the little turbo and E85 torque it loves to be driven 2500-4000rpms making it a real fun around-town car. So I don't think I'll be doing any more mods and the turbo is really the only direction for me to go next. When this turbo dies, I'll probably upgrade. But then again... not sure about that even since I bought a VF46 off an '08 Spec B (9k miles) as a backup.
