Getting ready to head out bright and early tomorrow morning to pick up a "new to me" Subaru!

I traded in my 02 WRX about a year ago for a more family friendly vehicle. Regretted it ever since, and missed the tuning and tweaking, how easy it was to get it going fast (13.2@103 stock turbo/ic/catback woohoo!), and still have great driveability and gas mileage.

So, I got an awesome deal from my boss on his sons '04 FXT Auto (always liked auto's better as I am really a drag racer). Needs a turbo, looking for a cheap TD04 or VF39. And a "You got beat by a wagon" sticker.

Figured I'd poke my head in here as most of the guy's who I remember having intelligent things to say are here, and not at good old nabisco.

So, hello again everyone. I'll be ordering my new cable once the car is actually up and running.

Anything I should look out for since I am used to tuning a 5 speed 16 bit and the FXT is a auto 32 bit system?
Thanks,
-PR

nice to see you back!

don't sell yourself short... get a 20g/td05 for that sucker!

decat it, mod the injectors, get an ebay tmic, and enjoy the mid-low 12s sleeper. you probably want a modded TC too. ;)

Thanks Ken.

I would get a 20G, but funds are just too tight right now. I do have a used VF39 on the way though, so at least I won't be beating the crap out of a TD04 on the 2.5L Subaru "big block". The uppipe cat at least will come out with he turbo swap, And I still have my redneck homemade catback from the WRX in the basement.

Hopefully I can manhandle a high 12 out of the car with this turbo. We'll see.

The stock turbo is definitely toast...how do you blow a turbo on a stock car with 47,000 miles? Everything else seems fine... :?:

in short, you don't.

it either had a lube issue or it was a suspect unit from the day it rolled off the line.

:)

i hear you on the tight funds issue... i went and bought a house last august. that plus a 3 year old means bye bye spare change!! lol...

luckily the last thing i splurged on was everything i need for a very potent ADI setup. all i need now is time to fab and rig it up. but i also need a back deck... :(

2 year old and a 9 month old here. I know what you mean...not much spare change and even less spare time. :)

I'll have to double check the oil lines and make sure they aren't clogged.

Turbo's REALLY shot...whole pressure side of the intake is full of oil, so the turbo must have been getting it. It feels like there is a good 1/4" of play up and down.

Must have been a bad unit...I abused the hell out of my WRX TD04 at 100K miles and it took it like a champ. The last run at the track I set the boost to 25lbs all the way to redline and let'er taper on its own. For informational purposes only. lol
Missed second and ran a 13.35. :x
Subaru's rock.
