Steps to Reproduce:
1)downloaded RomRaider 0.5.0-78-linux.jar
2) Installed it via java -jar RomRaider0.5.0-78-linux.jar to /Applications/RomRaider/
3) Launched RomRaider by double clicking the RomRaider.jar file inside the installed directory
4) RomRaider launches, tosses up a dialog box titled "Error Loading Settings" with the content "Settings file not found. Using Default Settings" with a button labeled "OK"
5) Clicked OK
6) RomRaider0.5.0 Beta Release Notes appear
7) Clicked OK
8) RomRaider GUI appears
9) Clicked the blue folder icon to open a ROM
10) Selected a ROM and opened it
11) RomRaider chews on the ROM for a VERY long time while the progress bar in the lower left flickers spastically
12) ROM opens, tables display
13) Clicked the blue folder icon to open a second ROM for comparison
14) Selected a second ROM and opened it.
15) RomRaider chews either for just a couple of seconds before stopping or for a very long time (behavior vaires) before displaying "Ready..." beside the progress bar in the lower left

What actually happened:
1) First ROM opened remains open
2) Second ROM selected does not appear opened, no tables displayed

What should have happened:
1) First ROM selected remains open
2) Second ROM selected opens, both ROMs and their tables displayed along the left side of the screen

System information:
Apple MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz Core Duo with 2GB of RAM
Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2 with all current patches
RomRaider 0.5.0-78 freshly downloaded.

I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. I have tested your scenario on Windows XP, Ubuntu 8.04 and Max OSX 10.4 (in a virtual machine) without any problems. Unfortunately I don't have a real Mac to test with.

Note that OSX is not currently a supported os. 3D map view and logging definitely won't work currently.

No Mac for me either, but I've tested on Windows Vista 32 and Xandros Linux (Eee PC). The only issues I've had are due to low screen resolution on the Eee PC.

Excellent bug report. :)

I'm running 0.5-78 on 64-bit Vista and I have no trouble opening two ROMs and viewing maps from both.

Thanks, I've done a lot of software testing. Filling out a half-way decent bug report is something I'd get lynched for failing to do.

BTW, I realize that OS X isn't an officially supported platform. However, the only major thing between you and supporting it is this multiple open ROM issue. Everything else works, or at least works as well as it works in a WinXP Pro VM. It's not a huge jump for you guys to pick up another platform.

Colby's beating on the guys who make the chips he uses for the cables to resolve the driver issues under OS X 10.5, so EcuFlash should soon work as well. This would leave only logging requiring a boot of the WinXP VM, which would be awesome. With the OpenPort 2.0 supporting laptop-less logging, we're not that far away from an all Mac solution.

What about actually owning a Mac? Without easy access to one it is hard to provide support for them.

Anyone else with a Mac also having this issue?

While the enginuity/romraider site was MIA, I posted a thread about this on either OpenEcu or NASIOC. The responses were basically "yeah, I run into that too" from the few people who aren't just booting into XP on the IntelMacs to tune. It seems like a lot of people who have Macs don't realize that since it's in java, they can launch it under OS X.

And as far as testing, I'm used to grabbing nightlies every day to do serious testing. I'm willing to put the hours into this as a tester to get the end result of tuning natively.

Do you have any obvious errors/stacktraces in your romraider.log when this happens?

What version of java are you running?

java version "1.5.0_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)

OS X users are dependent on the Apple-provided Java packages, no?

There's an apple-sanctioned version that updates as part of the system updates, but that's not to say that we're limited to that version.

I set the build file to generate 1.5-compatible code (selfish reasons - that's what my Eee PC is running), although kascade recommends 1.6, specifically the latest update. Apparently it has some performance improvements over the previous updates. I can open at least two ROMS on the Eee though, and it's running 1.5.0_10.
