My brother has an 05 Wrx and went and got a protune. He has Cobbs APv2. He asked me to back up his rom and put his LC back on with his new tune. I have hooked up to his car a dozen or so times before with no issues at all. I hooked up to his car and tried to read his ecu with ecuflash. I can not read his ecu. I have an 02 and Ecu flash reads mine just fine. When we hook up the green connector, flash jumper, and turn the car on it goes into test mode like it should. Then when we cycle the key off and then back on it does not pause like it used to. It just goes straight back into test mode. We messed with it for about an hour yesterday trying different things with no luck at all. The only thing that seem to make it pause was when I selected the 02-03 wrx model but then it would still not read it for obvious reasons. As far as ECU Flash goes it comes up with an error saying," there was a problem reading this rom file. See message log for details" When I look at the log it shows where it tried to to connect and failed. It doesn't really tell me anything.Is it possible that the tuner locked the ecu some how??? I thought Cobb did not do that. Any Ideas???

I've seen various threads where Cobb has said they were going to give their protuners the option of "locking out" the tune in the future. Maybe they started this. Why don't you have your brother call the protuner and ask if they did this?

I will have him do that. I back up the rom for him so if the ecu takes a dump. I can load the rom to the new ecu with out having to worry about the accessport married thing. So if cobb is locking out ecu's they are on there way to be another ecutek. Man glad I do my own tunes. I'll post an update when I hear back from him.

It is my understanding that AP V2 always locks out the ROM to reading/reflashing by any other system, including the SSM-III. It's a "feature" since it prevents a Subaru dealer from unexpectedly reflashing a married ECU, which has happened to AP V1 owners.

That's not true as there have been more than several guys with AP ver 2 who have tuned with Enginuity.

I have not heard from my brother yet on this. We did make a backup image before the protune with no problems. Same day as a matter of fact. Then after the protune we just can get the ecu to pause like it should. He's kind pissed anyways because the tuner could only get 290whp with a vf34 aps front mount.etc, We were really expecting 310 or higher. Oh well that's the way it goes. If he was to go to a different tuner would that tuner be able to tune his car or would the lock stop that and he would be stuck with the going back to other tuner??

thats a lot of power from just a 34. What dyno was your brother on? Take it down the 1/4 and see what it traps.

I believe it was a dyna pak but I am not sure. It does seem really fast but he really wants the lC back. I should be in touch with him this weekend. So I'll update then.
