But ike I said, it was already set at 200, would 255 disable it altogether or is it still just going to increase the count by 55? 255 is the maximum misfire count, so if it the car is hitting that, raising this threshold would disable at least this part of the logic. Whether or not that fixes the issue, i can't say.

mike the 02 roms had a LOT of issues with misfire. you might do well to just reflash it sooner rather than later.

Quick question on this topic. I have turned off CEL's P301, P302, P303, P304. Why is P300 not an option to defeat. I get this CEL due to my flywheel as well. This is a Random Misfire. Thanks for the help.

So.. what would one need to modify to make the count un-reachable by the ECU?

It works while driving, but after the ecu is powered off back on I guess some logic checks the counter and throughs a non readable misfire cel.

Changed the count to 255 and still got P0301 and P0303 DTC's.They vary through the 4 codes with the P0301 being the more common one.Recently changed plugs with new ones gapped at .030.The old ones came out with .038 gaps.Since I have changed plugs I get the DTC's alot more frequent.Maybe because I have been tuning on the older plugs with the bigger gap is now causing a timing problem.Don't know.

because the misfire count threshold is in debug mode, make sure it is saving (you need to make that selection in settings, otherwise it won't save).

Well I know mine is saving because I've tested it by pulling it back from the ROM. I honestly think the count is actually hitting 255+. I thought about forcing a value into that memory address on the ECU to make it unreachable with RAMTune but I figured I would ask if it was even possible

thats not it. There's something else going on. The misfire CELs and the P0171 and P0172? are treated differently than other CELs. I just haven't messed with it much lately.

Any new developements on this one? I have an early MY02 (built in '01)... I do have larger injectors and a vf-39, though this problem popped up when I went to a 12.5lb. flywheel. Stock intake with K&N filter, and just a catback exhaust. I tried messing around with the threshold, and no luck. I drive around for a couple of hours and it pops back on regardless of the threshold setting, seems to usually do it while cruising or coasting to a stop. It occasionally will go off for an hour or so and them come back on too.
I don't think this is a genuine misfire issue since the CEL seems to have coincided directly with the install of my lightweight flywheel, and the problem is heavily documented on the '02
I'm a little concerned since my first smog check on the car is coming up in a couple of months, and I REALLY don't feel like swapping my stock flywheel back in right now. I could risk just reseting the ECU right before the check, but if it pops on at any time during the test, that's an automatic fail and $60 down the drain for a failed test + it would take nerves of steel to sit there hoping the CEL would just hold off for an extra few minutes during the test.

it might help if i could get a ram dump for those who have raised the threshold and still get the cel. use ecuexplorer's ecu query function.
