Had a customer call this morning looking for some means of reading the trouble code(s) set in his 94 Subaru Legacy. The port he described is two rows of 8, i.e. 16 pin port but not the usual OBD-II shape of course and with a tab that would allow only the right connector to slip in.

Anyone know of a relatively inexpensive tool & software that will read the data from an old 94?

Wow, no URLs for a noobs. OK, try #2.

Go to legacycentral dot org and in the Electrical section of the BBs there is a sticky on a SSM replacement for early Subarus.

Also try VWRX dot com. There is also a section on a SSM replacement.

The actual connector is close enough to the radio connector that a radio install kit will work just fine.
