For that car, expect to buy an OBDI ECU and a conversion harness. This prevents you from being OBDII compliant, but it might not matter depending on where you live. I will say that there is almost exactly zero HP to be gained by tuning the factory setup :D

I didn't think you could do an OBD1 conversion on the newer (R-series, K-series) stuff...

dunno why you'd want to, I think hondata has a reflash but afaik there isn't anything opensource for those yet.

For some reason I thought it said 2001 Civic LX! D'oh! You can't do an OBDI conversion as the newer engines use coil on plug, etc.

I actually just tore down a d16a6 with d16z6 head today, I've had this motor since march and I hadn't had the time to tear it down.

turns out #1 rod became an hero and bent valves, and completely nuked the crank girdle..

luckily the bores and crank actually look decent!

tomorrow/today I get to tear down a D16ZC that has a hole in the block/oil pan, I hope the head is good so I can piece a working d-series together...

because it's not a car that would benefit from any type of modification via tuning.

Why is that?

(how many more rounds will this take?)

you could probably get 10 more hp out of it, maybe even a bit more but the truth is those cars are a bit of a dog. same reason all the guys who had 2005 Civics were doing KA swaps instead of tuning their 1.7L ULEV civic engine.

The motor is built for good fuel economy and low emissions. I doubt there is much left in there to get tapped.
