All I need to buy now is the gasket kit and the pistons. Then it is re-assembly time! Wee! Man it is gonna be a beast. I can't wait. How much bigger is the core compared to the 04-07 STi and JDM STi Intercooler?
Congrats on your car Gabe.

Congrats on your car Gabe. I don't know how big the JDM STI IC is, but the 08 Core is bigger all around. Laying flat it is just a tad longer than the 07 STI IC. Lay them down and the core thickness is a noticable difference. The only thing that sucks is that it is missing the STI bling logo.

From what I read it will fit the pignose models (06+), but not the others because of the coolant tank reservoir. When I compared the two, the mounting tabs lined up perfect, but I also have some extension bracket that came with it. We will see, I will get it mounted in there (or buy a front mount).
Seeing the 08 STI parts vs the 07 STI parts it looks like the 07 STI was the precursor (or hybrid if you want to call it that) of the 08 STI and the 06 STI.

Ok dumb question. Is there any alternative to Fuji bond or Dow Cornng's 7038 for the gasket maker? Should I just order the Fuji Bond? I know that permatex or someone other than Dow has to make block sealant that I can just pick up at an auto parts store. I have all the $$$ to rebuild it now. Ordering pistons and gaskets today.

Gabe,
Another schlub here saying thanks for all the work you and merchgod did. There are some of us who will defend what you have done regardless of what fool says what nonsense on nasioc or iwsti.
Intended for all of the fools on nasioc and iwsti - I guess there are those that can't go through a day being happy/miserable without trying to make others miserable. Those types, unless they figure it out, will die lonely, miserable and in some cases, despised.

Those types, unless they figure it out, will die lonely, miserable and in some cases, despised. Thanks man. I ended up blowing up my car partly because of research, plus I never really pushed the limits of a WRX or STI until now. Now I know the limits and fully understand (prolly better than most tuners) how to tune the 07 STI both ways. I just do not like the denso way. On my 06 STI's I do use one of the extra advance maps, but only put 2 degrees in there. Advance A on the 07 STI's I leave 0'd and always will. I beat the hell out of my 02 WRX, it should have blown, it never did though (MBC at 18 PSI). Anyway, I got convinced to coat my pistons. These are my friend Dave's (DaveNow or Defiant Autospeed on Nasioc) CP pistons. His 07 FXT lasted 7-8K is all. I mean cmon, we are exploring the limits of a new motor that obviously is not as strong as the 06 and under 2.5 motors. We do know this. The engine builders in Austin on both of our motors said the damage was not due to knock, but heat. Also, the pistons showed non-uniform fueling from the newer designed WRX topfeeds: Look at the 750CC DW (light blue) compared to the stock injectors. Also the STI pink topfeeds use the same light blue design. Denso is manufacturing injectors in china and Japan now as well. DW is getting me a basic flow report on my cores. Gabe Bobby (rjacobs) and Dave (DaveNow) are in this picture. That is Bobby's 06 STI in the pic who I am teaching to tune using romraider as he is helping me put my motor back together.
