The compressor is the “cold” side of the turbocharger. Essentially a centrifugal fan, it’s job is to compress air and force it into the engine. It is connected to the shaft of the turbocharger and driven by the turbine. Compressors are typically manufactured of cast aluminum and machined to closely match the shape of the compressor housing.
